Infonavit's Historic Measure to Freeze Mortgage Payments

The National Housing Fund Institute for Workers (Infonavit) has announced an unprecedented measure to freeze the monthly payments of two million mortgage loans granted before 2013. The main objective of this initiative is to alleviate the financial burden on workers by reducing interest rates and halting the increase in monthly payments, which in some cases have risen to more than five times the original amount granted.

Of the two million loans benefiting, half a million will receive the adjustment automatically, while one and a half million workers will need to go to Infonavit offices or check their status through the organization's digital platform. This measure mainly focuses on loans denominated in Minimum Wage Times (VSM), which represent 64% of Infonavit's current portfolio and affect four million loans. In this scheme, both the debt balance and the monthly payments increased annually, turning many mortgages into practically unpayable debts.

The decision to freeze monthly payments means maintaining the current amount without future increases, providing financial stability to debtors. President Claudia Sheinbaum supports this measure, highlighting its importance during a morning conference and emphasizing its significance as a step towards financial justice for workers affected by the VSM scheme.

On another note, the Buenavista del Cobre and La Caridad mines, belonging to the Mining Division of Grupo México and located in Sonora, have been awarded the National Export Award by the Ministry of Economy. This recognition highlights Grupo México's contribution to the increase and diversification of Mexican exports, consolidating its position as an industrial benchmark in the country.

As for Aeroméxico, it has been recognized again as the most punctual global airline, achieving this title for the sixth time this year and the third consecutive time in October, according to the Cirium report. During the month, the airline operated more than 15,000 flights with high punctuality rates for departures and arrivals, demonstrating its commitment to efficiency and quality in service.

In summary, these actions represent important advances in different sectors and reflect the commitment both of Infonavit to provide financial support to workers and of Grupo México and Aeroméxico to excel in their respective areas of operation.
